The father of Leonard McCoy. Late in life David suffered from a terminal illness which left him in severe pain. At his request, his son Leonard shut off his life support and euthanised him. Not long afterwards a cure for his condition was discovered. The knowledge that his father could have lived years longer pained Leonard for a long time, until it was finally relieved by Sybok.1
