An engineer aboard the Nero timeline NCC 1701, Olson was one of the officers chosen by Captain Pike to attack and disable Nero's drill as it drilled into Vulcan. He was eager to take on the Romulans, and in his enthusiasm to reach the drill platform by space jumping he left opening his chute until the last possible moment. As a result he impacted hard on the drill head, bounced across the surface, fell over the edge and was vapourised by the drilling beam.1
