A Human resident of mid 20th century Earth, Darlene Kursky was Douglas Pabst's secretary at the offices of science fiction magazine Incredible Tales. She was a fan of science fiction, and was greatly impressed with Benny Russell's story about a future space station commanded by a black man. She found the idea of a character with a "worm in her belly" to be especially interesting.1
