A member of Species 8472, Gentry was one of those who assumed Human form as part of his species' program to train soldiers to infiltrate Starfleet. Gentry challenged Commander Chakotay when he visited the training facility, and was captured and returned to Voyager. When Gentry realised that he had been captured he committed suicide by releasing a cellular toxin into his blood. After his death Voyager's EMH was able to return Gentry to his real form with a genetic reversion.1
