An Ocampan, Benaren was Kes's father. He and his wife Martis lived on the Ocampan home world in the 2360s. He died in 2371, about a year after Kes was born. Kes would later say that Benaren was the greatest influence on her, and that the strenght and guidence he imparted inspired her dream of leaving her underground city and exploring the surface.1
