An associate of Skalaar, Gaavrin worked as his first officer aboard the cargo ship Tezra. When the Klingons confiscated the ship Gaavrin soon abandoned hope of getting her back, and became a scrap dealer. Skalaar sought him out in 2153 to obtain an antimatter injector.1
