A Klingon renegade, Kunivas thought his people had become weak in accepting peace with the Federation. He and several companions escaped the Empire, destroying a Klingon vessel in the process. Kunivas was badly injured in the battle, and died shortly afterwards. His companions performed the Klingon death howl over his body, one of the first occasions when this ritual was seen by non-Klingons.1
