A Vulcan, Tolaris followed the V'tosh ka'tur philosophy - he and his followers attempted to fuse both logic and emotion. He visited the NX-01 in 2151 whilst it explored the Arachnid Nebula; Tolaris encouraged T'Pol to experiment with her own emotions, and performed a mind meld on her to help her break her mental disciplines. When T'Pol became uncomfortable with his actions Tolaris attempted to force himself on her. He later attacked Captain Archer when the captain confronted him concerning his actions.1 Unknown to T'Pol at the time, she contracted Pa'nar syndrome during her mind meld with Tolaris.2
