Boring end to a decent show, what's with falling back on time travel, anyway? I think this would have been just as satisfying knowing what happened to the crew of crappy little Voyager if they HAD taken another 20 or 30 years to get back. |

Personally my favorite finale of any Trek series. Good amount of action, and not stock footage like What You Leave Behind was full of; it also paces itself better than the DS9 finale did. Some nice humorous moments too, and the cast put in wonderful performances, especially Mulgrew as Janeway and Janeway. Let down a little bit by the Chakotay/Seven romance, as it was kind of a new development to be thrown into a finale. |

A very weak effort - if effort can be used to describe something that appears to have been so carelessly put together. A series finale should be the culmination of themes and plotlines. Yet in this episode events were driven by a piece by multiple technologies never before even hinted at (time travel, invulnerable armor, Borg-busting torpedoes... a really pathetic deus ex machina device), a love story that appeared out of nowhere, and Janeway's obsession to prevent something (the death of 7of9 that didn't even happen during the series!). Even accepting the plot, I find future Janeway to be an entirely reprehensible character - to save 7of9 and some other crewmen who are never named, she is willing to destroy decades of the continuum and destroy everyone created during that period. Take Tom and Torres's daughter for example (though many people at the party would also serve) that Janeway USED to get the time travel device (because they exist now in this episode!). That daughter is essentially murdered by Janeway because now she will grow up on Earth, experience entirely different events, and grow up as an entirely different person. |

OK, this could have been a lot better. The portions set in the 'future' were completely unconvincing, and I would have cut them out altogether. It's interesting in some ways, but somehow does not quite fit the story and rips off "Timeless". The portions set in the 'present' would have made a nice 1-hour episode with a few important changes (saying that the ship is about to cross into the Beta Quadrant, perhaps). Even better would have been a suggestion that the Borg were about to launch a massed attack on Earth, and the only way to save it would be to destroy the Hub before they could do so. As for the last few minutes, it somehow managed to destroy all the tension. Where was the mad plunge into Earth's atmosphere and the emergency landing? Then there are all the loose ends. What about a reunion or two? Will Chakotay and the Maquis be pardoned? This is the journey of the Starship Voyager - in with a bang, out with a whimper. |

Well, not up to the standards of TNG's "All Good Things" or DS9's "What You Leave Behind," but not a complete failure either. As usual I'll start with the bad. We're being hit with time travel. Again. Voyager had some really good time travel stuff throughout the series, but its frequent use just kind of wore it out. Also the relationship between Seven and Chakotay was really out of place and kind of forced. Voyager's new armor and weapons from the future give the ship a kind of "fanboyish" feel to it, although the FX work was still pretty cool. Generally the whole premise is kind of weak, rushed, and leaves a lot of loose threads. I would have loved to see some time devoted to what happened when the crew returned to Earth. What happened to the Maquis? The Equinox survivors? Tom's parole? On the flip side there were quite a few things I liked about this episode. The action and special effects sequences are up to the usual outstanding standard. Miral's birth was of course expected, but welcome none the less. It was especially great to see Alice Kridge reprise the role of the Borg Queen from First Contact. Susanna Thompson didn't do a bad job as the Queen in the three episodes she appeared in, but Kridge just brings so much more to the character that makes her very appealing in an almost creepy, but cool way. Although I wouldn't mind Susanna Thompson playing the Queen in some future Trek incarnation, Alice Kridge will always be my first choice to play the character. So that ends Voyager. In all some decent stuff in here, but not nearly enough closure on the characters. I really wish the script wasn't so rushed, actually I wish B&B didn't write it at all. They became so out of touch with the Trek fanbase towards the end that the show really began to suffer for it starting around mid-season 5, and it just went downhill from there. |

Generally, final episodes are meant to define a series. They close up outstanding plotlines and represent the best qualities of the show. Endgame manages neither. We have the Borg, who have been demoted from badass to bad guy of the week. We have random tech appearing with absolutely no precursor in the seven years of Voyager. And-naturally-we have convenient plot devices. Got a dilemna? Blow the Borg Hub to hell, or leave it intact to get to Earth? To hell with moral dilemnas, who ever needed them? We'll do some fancy stuff and do both! Good performances from the actors save the episode to some degree; I especially liked Miral. However, the future scenes do very little except set up the trip back through time-which removes much of the fun of seeing the future. Ultimately, despite the pretty eye candy, this episode fails. It's not nearly as bad as Enterprise's final episode, but given the good episodes Voyager has pulled out occasionally, you would expect better. |
