Review : This classic TOS-era novel does two remarkable things. It develops the Romulan culture along the path originally envisioned in Balance of Terror, as a complex, honour-driven society. It is one of a select few books and episodes in the Trek universe to transcend the stereotype that would make all the "good guys" essentially American in ethos and all the "bad guys" people acting out because of their deformed foreheads. The second remarkable thing is that the protagonist is a Romulan commander, who pursuades Kirk to help her to preserve her people's honour. As with its counterpart book, Spock's World, Diane Duane creates a more believable, more richly varied universe than the series were able to do.

Review : ASR beat me to it! More kudos for this excellent book.

Review : Perhapse one of the greatest novels in all of Trek. Diane Duane once again delivers a stellar novel, only made all the better by the fact that both this book (and its semi-sequel, "The Romulan Way") would eventually be expanded on and continued in later books years down the road. Yet, even with all four books, this is still a great read, and stands well by itself. A wonderful insight into Romulan culture (not to mention the more credible appearance of non-human crewmen). Humor abounds, drama is there, and Kirk is locked in a brig. Need we say more? ^_^

Review : I was turned onto the Rihannsu series by a friend of mine. Told me that I would not regret it and if I could I needed to get my hands on all four books. Well I listned to her. Did something I had never done till then, ordered them on Amazon because I couldn't get them local. I have to say I have never regreted getting them. My Enemy, My Ally is one of the best books ever written period.

Review : Excellent book. Romulans working together with the Federation to prevent war for a change. Very good characterizations!

Review : This book introduces to ST fandom the character of khre'Riov Ael i-Mhiessan t'Rllaillieu, a Romluan commander who is the most intriguing non-Federation character we have seen. Flat out, this is an excellent read and one that I have read and re-read many times over. Ms. Duane takes us, step by step, into the whys and wherefores of Romulan thinking and in later books in the series, Romulan politics. A must read for all Trekfen.
