The computer was capable of "absorbing" a person, radically altering their personality in order to make them dedicated to peaceful coexistence. Unfortunately this had the effect of stifling their natural emotions to such an extent that some form of outlet was needed; the computer solved this by allowing periodic release during "festivals", in which the population was encouraged to run riot. In 2167 the USS Enterprise visited the planet; Captain Kirk determined that the computer, which had also dubbed itself Landru, was stifling the society rather than continuing it. He destroyed the computer, leaving some sociologists to assist the population in forming a society of their own.217 |

Planet which petitioned for Federation entry in 2267189 Although it is not specifically named as such, the planet featured in Enterprise "Shadows of P'Jem" is apparently the same planet Coridan - though this is not certain since the whole system is called Coridan, so the Trek naming convention would name the planets Coridan I, II, III, IV, etc.271
In 2381 Coridan was one of the planets attacked by the Borg in their invasion of the Alpha Quadrant. The planet was badly damaged, but not completely devastated.121 |

Deneva291 |
Human colony world, first colonised in 2167292 The world was originally colonised as a freighting line base for the area, and the nearby asteroid belt was a site of mining facilities. Deneva was considered to be one of the most beautiful planets in the area, and by the 2260s the population was almost a million, with at least one city of 100,000 people. All contact with the planet was lost in the year 2266, and it was feared that Deneva had fallen victim to an insanity effect which seemed to be progressing through the Galaxy. The USS Enterprise investigated and found that the planet had been infested by the Denevan neural parasites. The ship was able to eliminate the infestation.291
Starfleet Commander Atish Khatami's husband Kenji lived in their home on Deneva.225
In 2381, Deneva was one of the planets attacked by the Borg during their invasion of the Alpha Quadrant. The entire population was wiped out, save for a few thousand who were able to evacuate before the attack.121 Amongst the death were Elieth, the son of Tuvok and T'Pel, and his wife Ione.265 |

Droplet265 |
The fourth planet of the UFC 86783 system - named as New Kaferia by the Stellar Cartography department on the USS Titan since the star was very similar to Kaferia’s star Tau Ceti - Droplet was a Léger-type ocean planet. It was Class O, subclass L1. It had a lower density than Earth but was larger, giving it about three times the total mass. Nearly half of that mass was water ice.265
Droplet had a metal core thirty seven hundred kilometres deep, surrounded by nearly three thousand kilometres of silicate rock. Above that was a mantle of high-pressure allotropic ice over four thousand kilometres deep. Above the ice was an ocean of liquid water some ninety kilometres deep.265
The planet was in an unusually wide orbit around the sun, but had a tropical climate due to the considerable greenhouse in the atmosphere combined with convection currents in the oceans which brought heat up from the bottom.265
Unusually for such worlds, Droplet was inhabited by a variety of life forms including higher-order life. Although there was no solid land, the surface was dotted with floating islands composed of a coral-like substance created by living beings.265
The USS Titan discovered Droplet in 2381, the ship's first stop on the exploratory mission which it resumed after the Borg crisis earlier that year.265 |

Eden259 |
A planet long thought mythical, which legend described to be a perfect paradise. Dr. Sevrin became convinced that the planet Eden was real and in 2269 he attempted to reach it by stealing the Federation space cruiser, Aurora, but he and his party were captured by the USS Enterprise. However, he was able to hijack the Starship and make his way to Eden, which lay within Romulan space. Sevrin was a carrier of synthococcus novae, and believed that living on Eden would cure him of the disease completely. However on arrival the planet was found to be lethally poisonous - every single plant was suffused with acid so strong that merely touching it for a few moments produced serious chemical burns. Dr. Sevrin and one of his followers, Adam, were killed attempting to eat fruit on the planet. The others were rescued.259 |

Eminiar VII169 |
An inhabited planet located in the NGC 321 star cluster. Eminiar colonised the third planet in their system, Vendikar, some time prior to the mid 18th century. Vendikar eventually turned against Eminiar and a war broke out between the two in 1767. The primary means of fighting was the use of long range transporters to materialise fusion bombs over cities; the destruction was so great that both civilisations were threatened with total destruction. As a result, the two societies entered into an agreement to conduct the war via computers; attacks would be carried out mathematically and casualties registered. Those designated as casualties would them report to disintegration machines for disposal. This allowed the war to continue on an permanently sustainable basis.169 Eminiar was in an important strategic location with regards to the Federation, and in 2217 the USS Valiant was sent to make contact with the planet. Unfortunately an attack was calculated to have destroyed the ship in orbit, and the Eminians were able to overpower and eliminate the crew in response. The Eminians resisted all further outside contact as strongly as possible, but in 2267 the USS Enterprise was sent to force the issue by making contact over and above their wishes. Again an attack registered the ship as a casualty, but Captain Kirk was able to resist all efforts at immolating him and force a breakdown in the system governing the war. Federation Ambassador Fox offered his assistance in negotiating an end to the conflict.169 |

Gamma Tauri IV36 |
Fourth planet of the Gamma Tauri system. The Ferengi stole a T-9 energy converter from Gamma Tauri IV in 2364.36
The planet was colonised in 2363. In 2366, the USS Lovell spent an extended period on colony support at the planet. During the same year Jeanne Vinueza took over as the Colony Leader on the planet. One of her first actions was to reject protectorate status from the Federation, claiming independence for the colony. In foregoing Starfleet protection she hoped that the planet would not attract the attentions of the Klingons in the increasing climate of hostility with the Federation.234
Gamma Tauri IV was an agricultural colony. It lacked any deposits of dilithium. The planet had a single landmass, an irregular crescent shape that stretched almost two-thirds of the planet's circumference, covering latitudes from the subarctic to subantarctic. It totalled more than a third of the entire planet's surface area.234
In 2266 the Shedai launched a massive attack on the Federation colony on Gamma Tauri IV, killing thirteen thousand people. In response Commodore Reyes ordered the Starship Endeavour to enact Starfleet General Order 24. The ship bombarded the surface, exterminating every living thing, blasting away its atmosphere, cooking its oceans, and leaving it as nothing but a red-hot ball of glass.234 |

She and her mother Miral were the only Klingons on the planet during her childhood.185 Her father John Torres visited Kessik IV in 2378. He was surprised at the changes that had been made to their old house there.366
Kessik IV was originally colonised in 2264 by the crew of the mining ship Epimetheus. They chose the planet because it contained significant deposits of dilithium. In 2265, Commodore Diego Reyes and Ambassador Jetanien attempted to use the principle of eminent domain in order to seize the dilithium mines, but the Starfleet JAG office dismissed the request.315
Orion gangster Ganz had Cervantes Quinn deliver an illicit cargo to Kessik IV, with an understanding that the recipients would kill him when he delivered. Quinn landed in Anzarosh, a town which served as Kessik IV’s spaceport. It was, in his opinion, a shabby place, and one of the most depressing locations he had ever visited. Quinn managed to evade the trap and return to Starbase Vanguard, which somewhat impressed Ganz.315 |

Planet whose ownership was disputed by the Vulcans and Andorians. Located on the frontier between the two powers, the dispute nearly caused three wars during 21st and 22nd centuries. Only slightly larger than Earth's moon, the planet was originally class D until it was terraformed by the Andorians after they colonised it in 2052. The Vulcans became concerned that the settlement was a military outpost and claimed the planet in 2097, removing the colonists by force. It remained uninhabited until the Andorians landed a small force in 2152, prompting further hostilities. Captain Archer was able to negotiate a cease fire.434 |

Pacifica304 |
Ocean world which the Enterprise-D was due to visit on a scientific mission in 2364. Commander Riker characterised it as an ocean world of warm blue waters and fine beaches that he thought made it "a jewel of the galaxy." The Enterprise diverted from the mission at the request of Walter Keel, who sought to inform Picard of a mysterious conspiracy that he believed was overtaking Starfleet.304 A conference was held on Pacifica in 2365 to determine whether Antede III would be allowed the join the Federation; the Enterprise-D transported a pair of Antedeans to Pacifica to attend the conference, though they proved to be assassins intent on sabotaging it.155
Pacifica is the home planet of the Selkie species, a race of intelligent seagoing lifeforms.435 |
Conspiracy |
Palgrenax225 |
A planet located within the Taurus Reach, and the home world of the Palgrenai. In galactic terms Palgrenax possessed nothing of military or political value. Mineral ores on the planet were of marginal use for refining or energy generation, and were especially lacking in materials used in Klingon warships. The planet was too remote from Federation colonies and patrol routes to have any real strategic value for the Klingons. Nevertheless, they conquered the planet in the mid 23rd century.225
Palgrenax was home to a collection of ancient ruins located on one continent. The Chancellor and High council were interested in the ancient structures, and the Klingon Governor Morqla speculated that this may be the reason behind their conquest. When the Klingon scientists analysing the object managed to activate it, a member of the Shedai species which had constructed the device used it to attack the Klingon occupation forces. A cruiser in orbit bombarded the alien structures in reprisal, prompting the Shedai to destroy the planet.225 |

Rivals |
Qo'noS368 |
A Class M planet, Qo’noS - rendered in English as Kronos - is the home world of the Klingon species and capital of the Klingon Empire.368 The planet was first visited by Humans in 2151 when the crew of the NX-01 took the Klingon operative Klaang back to his people.103 The co-ordinates of Qo’noS are 43.89.26.05421, placing it some 4 days away from Earth at Warp 4.5.103
Qo’noS had at least one moon, Praxis, which was a key energy production facility for the Empire during the 23rd century. The Klingons took insufficient safety precautions and over-mined the moon, which resulted in a devastating explosion in 2293. Much of Praxis was destroyed, producing a massive subspace shockwave and severely damaging the planet’s ozone layer and leading to increasing oxygen depletion. The planet was expected to become uninhabitable by 2343368, although apparently some way was found to avert this.448
Captain Picard visited Qo’noS in 2366 as part of Lieutenant Worf’s attempt to clear his family name. Although Worf accepted discommendation in a political deal to protect the Empire from dissolving into civil war, he and Captain Picard returned to the planet in 2367 to clear his name - and did indeed spark a civil war in the process.449
Quark would also visit Qo’noS in 2371 during his brief marriage to the Lady Grilka.192
In the Kelvin timeline, Khan Noonien Singh took refuge on Qo’noS after his attack on Starfleet headquarters. He hid in a deserted province of the planet, knowing Starfleet would find it difficult to pursue him there. Admiral Marcus ordered Captain Kirk to bombard the planet with long range torpedoes from the edge of Klingon space in order to kill Khan. Kirk disobeyed orders and instead took a small ship to the planet and captured him.450
The planet was divided up into various regions. The Ketha lowlands were the birthplace of Chancellor Martok, an area dominated by farmlands.247 Grilka was from the Mekro’vak region. 196 There were also many geographical features of note, including the Lava Caves of No'Mat, the heat of which could produce hallucinogenic effects in Klingons. Worf once experienced a vision of Kahless after spending six days in the caves. 148 The Hamar Mountains were home to Targs whose shoulders were used in the making of var’Hama candles.451 The Sea of Gatan was a body of water in which B’Elanna Torres almost drowned as a child.452 Kang's Summit was a location where Chancellor Martok once hunted Sabre Bear.453 The Kri'stak Volcano, and the nearby Lake of Lusor were also notable. According to legend Kahless forged the first Bat’leth sword by dipping a lock of his own hair into the lava of the volcano and then cooling it in the lake.423 The Skral River was noted in a Klingon drinking song which claimed that it once ran red with blood after a battle.452
Cities on Qo’noS included Qam-Chee, the site of a famous battle in which the Emperor Kahless and Lady Lukara stood against five hundred warriors - and, later on, jumped on one another ‘like a pack of wild voles’, beginning the greatest romance in Klingon history. 454
Quin'lat was another historic city. According to legend a great storm once approached this city; whilst Kahless and others took shelter inside, one Klingon remained to face the storm, determined to make it respect him. The man was killed, and Kahless noted afterwards that his act was more one of foolishness than courage.196
Tong Vey was yet another city at which a famous battle took place. Ten thousand warriors, led by the Emperor Sompek, conquered the city after a long siege. Sompek ordered it burned to the ground and every inhabitant killed. Worf enjoyed playing the part of Sompek in a holosuite recreation of the battle, always ending the simulation by giving the order to raze the city.202
In 2381 Qo'noS was one of the Alpha Quadrant planets targeted in the Borg attack. The planet was badly damaged in the attack, though not completely devastated.121 |

Qu'vat117 |
A Klingon colony world near to the Briar patch. Malik planned to attack the colony with bio weapons in order to provoke a war between Earth and the Klingon Empire, but was prevented from doing so by the NX-01.117 The colony was also the site of a genetic research facility. The Klingons recovered some Augment DNA from the wreckage left after Enterprise destroyed the Augments' ship and used it to develop Klingon Augments. Unfortunately this caused a deadly virus to be created, threatening much of the Klingon Empire.455 The NX-01 travelled to Qu'Vat after the captured Augment Marab provided the co-ordinates.456 |

Risa122 |
A planet in a binary star system, famed as one of the great vacation spots of the galaxy.336 Risa is the site of the most elaborate climate control system in the Federation, as well as seismic regulators. Without this control a lot of the surface area would have been an unpleasant swampland ridden with earthquakes.122 Risa is approximately 90 light years from Earth, and was first visited by Humans in 2152 when the NX-01 crew took shore leave there. The planet was considered to be very cosmopolitan at the time, with visitors from many different species.466 Tourism was one of the major industries on Risa, with the Vulcan database listing more than two hundred registered Nuvian masseuses on the planet397 and attractions including subterranean gardens filled with luminescent plants, steam pools466, and a water recreation park.467
In 2135 T'Pol tracked a two Vulcan fugitives to Risa. She killed one, but the other escaped.126 In the 24th century, Commander Riker was very fond of the planet and managed to convince Captain Picard to holiday there.122 Riker met and had a brief romance with a Ktarian woman, Etana Jol, on the planet in 2368, though she subsequently proved to be a covert operative.425 Geordi La Forge was on his way to Risa in 2367 when he was abducted by Romulans.377 Starfleet intelligence believed that Federation Ambassador Krajensky was replaced by a Founder infiltrator whilst visiting Risa in 2371208 Worf and Jadzia also vacationed on the planet in 2373, where they encountered the New Essentialist, a small political movement that saw Risa as an example of how decadent the Federation had begun. The New Essentialists briefly seized control of the weather and seismic control systems during the visit.336 In 2375 Grand Nagus Zek and Ishka retired on the planet.179
In 2381 Risa was one of the Alpha Quadrant planets targeted in the Borg attack. Large numbers of Risans and guests were evacuated before the Borg arrived but the surface of the planet itself was devastated in the attack, killing every living thing.121 |

Romulus464 |
Located in Sector Z-6, Romulus is the capital world of the Romulan Empire and home planet of the Romulan species.464 Romulus was colonised some time after the rise of Surak's philosophy of non-emotionalism on Vulcan in the year 370. Those Vulcans who refused to accept this transition left the planet, founding various settlements on different planets u as they travelled. One group eventually settled on Romulus and founded a new civilisation there.30 The Romulan civilisation has generally been an aggressive one, and in the 22nd century they fought a war with Earth forces. The war eventually ended with the creation of a neutral zone between the two, a volume of space which both sides were forbidden to send any military forces into.464 Over the years some transgressions did occur, but very few Federation personnel had ever actually penetrated to Romulus itself even by the 24th century.305 Admiral Jarok considered Romulus to be more beautiful than any of the hundred plus worlds he had visited in his military career. He was particularly impressed by the the firefalls of Gath Gal'thong, the Apnex Sea, and the valley of Chula.387 In 2368 Federation intelligence located Ambassador Spock on Romulus34, prompting a covert mission by Captain Picard and Lieutenant Commander Data to the planet. Spock had been working on his own initiative to try and work towards the reunification of the Romulan and Vulcan people. Although Data and Picard did help Spock avert a crisis involving a Romulan attempt to invade Vulcan itself, Spock chose to remain behind on Romulus in order to continue working towards a peaceful reunification.302 The planet Remus was located in the same system as Romulus. In 2379 Shinzon murdered the entire Romulan Senate with Thalaron Radiation and requested talks with the Federation. Captain Jean Luc Picard took the Enterprise-E to Romulus itself, the first time a Federation Starship had penetrated the system. The invitation proved to be a trap, but the Enterprise was able to escape.260 Spock did make some progress in his efforts to deepen relations between Romulus and the Federation and in 2387, when the planet was threatened by an exploding star, the Romulans approached him to request Federation assistance. Spock personally piloted the vessel that would attempt to neutralise the exploding star with an injection of red matter, but he was too late. Romulus was destroyed with the loss of the entire population.289 |

In 2375, Chancellor Gowron planned a direct assault on Sarpedion V. He ordered General Martok to lead the attack with a force of fifteen Vorcha-class cruisers, a force level that Gowron thought would 'barely scratch' the defences.184
This order led Worf to accuse Gowron of reckless disregard for his men. The two fought, and Worf killed Gowron. Worf declined the Chancellorship, placing Martok in the leadership position in his place. The attack was thus never carried out.184 |
