Romulan Ale

Romulan Ale1
A blue alcoholic drink which has generally been illegal in the Federation. Despite this, Starfleet officers were able to secure small quantities on occasion. McCoy was able to give a bottle of Romulan Ale to Admiral Kirk for his birthday in 2285.1 In 2293 Lieutenant Saavik suggested some Romulan Ale may help the formal reception for Chancellor Gorkon go smoothly. Kirk agreed, though he would regret it afterwards due to the hangovers the officers suffered.2 By 2375 the alliance between the Romulans, Klingons and Federation during the Dominion war changed Federation policy, and Romulan Ale became legal again.3 However with the end of the war the ban was re-imposed.4
