Plotline : The Enterprise takes on a large group of diplomats in order to transport them to a conference, including Ambassador Sarek and his Human wife Amanda - Spock's parents. When an assassin kills one of the delegates the method of attack points to Sarek, but he Ambassador is soon in sickbay himself with a life threatening illness. The only cure is a long transfusion process but when the assasin strikes again and badly wounds Kirk, Spock refuses to leave the bridge on family matters. Kirk tricks his first officer into thinking he is recovered, but once Spock leaves the bridge an alien vessel launches an attack. An injured Kirk must fight off a superior enemy while McCoy struggles to save Sarek.

YATI : For a violent race, the Andorians sure don't wear sensible clothes. Keep an eye on the Andorian during his fight with Kirk - he's fighting his own clothes almost as much as the captain!
Great Moment : Spock confessing that Sarek was his father.
Body Count : One Tellarite, one fake Andorian (probably Orion), one alien ship's crew (probably Orion).
Factoid : This episode features the first appearance of Mark Lenard, as Spock's father Sarek. Mark Lennard is also the only actor in Trek history to have played a Romulan, a Klingon and a Vulcan.
Quote : "At the time it seemed the logical thing to do." - Sarek to Spock on marrying Amanda.
