First Contact

Review

Series : The Next Generation Rating : 4
Disc No : 4.3 Episode : 88
First Aired : 18 Feb 1991 Stardate : Unknown
Director : Cliff Bole Year : 2367
Writers : Marc Scott Zicree Season : 4
Guest Cast :
Bebe Neuwirth as Lanel
Carolyn Seymour as Mirasta Yale
George Coe as Chancellor Avel Durken
George Hearn as Berel
Michael Ensign as Krola
Sachi Parker as Tava
Steven Anderson as Nilrem
Moral :
Dreams : Dream big; you never know what fate might bring you
YATI : At one point calls a Malcorian a Marconian.

Durken asks Picard what would happen if he demanded that the Federation leave his planet and never return, and Picard states that they will do so. Hmmm. Durken may be the current leader of the planet, but does he really have the right to speak for it for the rest of time? What if his successor has a different view? What if the society on the planet changes drastically over time? Surely the thing to do would be to leave... then return when Durken left office, and make the same offer to whomever replaced him.
Great Moment : The woman who wants to have sex with Riker.
Body Count : Zero, although one Malcorian gets stunned and Riker almost dies.
Factoid : The Nurse role in this episode was written specially for longtime Trek fan Bebe Neuwirth.

Plotline

Picard must tread delicately in a First Contact situation. But with an undercover Riker lying wounded in a Malcorian hospital, the Captain may have to sacrifice his first officer for the good of the mission.
