The Eye of the Beholder

Series : The Animated Series Rating : 2 Random Image
Disc No : 6 Episode : 15
First Aired : 5 Jan 1974 Stardate : 5501.2
Director : Hal Sutherland Year : 2268
Writers : David P. Harmon Season : 1
Guest Cast :
James Doohan as Lieutenant Commander Tom MarkelMajel Barrett as Randi Bryce
Plotline : Searching for the missing starship Ariel, Kirk, beams down to the planet Lactra VII. His landing party is captured by the locals, huge slug-like creatures who are holding the Ariel crew in a zoo-like facility. Kirk must convince the Lactrans that it is wrong to hold less intelligent lifeforms captive.
Analysis : A by-the-numbers story which parallels many others, most notably "The Cage", but which lacks any real originality or interest. Again the makers used the animated format to give us non-Humanoid aliens, which is nice. Beyond that, though, there is little to reccomend this episode.

YATI : The crew of the U.S.S. Ariel are wearing the insignia of the Enterprise, something that should not happen during the TOS timeframe.
Great Moment :
Body Count :
Factoid : My year for this episode is estimated from the Stardate; it is one of a group of TAS episodes set between 'For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky' and 'Is There in Truth no Beauty?'
