YATI : Discussing an impending Dominion attack, Bashir notes that two hours will not be long enough to get reinforcements from Bajor. Why don't they bring reinforcements in now? And what about Starfleet - Sisko has had the time to go all the way to Earth and back since the last episode, they could have massed whole fleets at the station by now.

When attacked by the Jem'Hadar, Sisko orders the shields up. But he already knows that the phased polaron beams used by the Dominion go through Federation shields. The Odyssey captain transferred shield power to the weapons because of this, which seems eminently sensible, so why isn't Sisko doing the same instead of wasting power on shields?

Factoid : This is the first episode to feature the Defiant.
Quote : "I've brought back a little surprise for the Dominion." - Sisko to Kira regarding the Defiant.

Plotline

Sisko and crew head off into the Gamma Quadrant to contact the mysterious Founders, rulers of the Dominion. To help them in their search, Sisko brings along a new toy - the USS Defiant, a Starfleet warship built to fight the Borg. But once in Dominion space the ship is quickly overwhelmed by the Jem'Hadar, and only Odo and Kira escape.
