Current poll - TOS Remastered

Post by Captain Seafort »

As the current poll on the main site says - is TOS Remastered a much needed updating of abysmal special effects, or unwarrented interference with a classic piece of sci-fi history? Discuss

I've no problem with making things look nicer. :)

So long as they stick to simply updating the visuals I don't have a problem - and it would be nice to see the E-nil's phasers fire from the same place every episode. :)

Just keep your fingers crossed that they don't start changing who shoots first.

Kirk shot first.
No arguments. :P

So far it seems to be enhancements, rather than actual re-writes, so I'm all for it. I haven't noticed any changes so much as cleaning things up - the are a few more lines on the skin of the E-nil, for example, but the shape, color, texture, etc. didn't change.

I don't like it. It's just... wrong. It'll eventually get into an update every few years in some dumb cycle.

Well, he was the 23rd century John Wayne, where they were taught to shoot first and ask questions later. Kirk tried to ask his teachers why, but he had to shoot them first! :raygun1: By the way, I'm all for Hi-Def and remastered!

I don't think it really matters. Hi-def and remastered are nice but upgrading a series like that is more or less just a way to make more money.

Yeah. I'm not plunking down umpteen amounts of money for a series I already own because of a few cleaned up images!

I agree. The whole point of TOS wasn't to have flashy graphics. Even back then they weren't great. The real strength of TOS lies in the characters, and the stories.

Well, DUH! Of course it's a way to make money! Why else would a studio do anything? Did anyone really think that Paramount was going to call them for the correct address to send the free re-mastered TOS DVD's?

The point is, are you one of those who considers the remasters sacrilege, or is it subtle enough to merely be an enhancement?

I consider them to be unnessecary and a waste.

Unnecesary? Yeah. But why wasteful?

Well we have Series 1 on HD DVD and have started getting pictures from them onto the site. Check out the pics on the following episodes:

Where No Man Has Gone Before
Mudd's Women
The Enemy Within
The Man Trap

Some of the images are stunning.
