Rise Like Lions - Commonwealth vessels
Rise Like Lions - Commonwealth vessels
Okay, so I had to post this because it had been burning in my mind since I first read the book. But how do people think the Galactic Commonwealth (using the Enterprise as an example) would now designate its ships, now that the Commonwealth is official?
I had some thoughts:
CSS Enterprise (an historical irony, considering the American Civil War where Confederate soldiers named their ships like CSS Virginia. However, it would here be Commonwealth Star Ship)
CWS Enterprise (for Commonwealth War Ship/Common Wealth Ship)
GCS Enterprise (for Galactic Commonwealth Starship)
GSS Enterprise (for Galactic Star Ship)
Any other ideas, I'd be glad to hear them out. ^_^

Sorry, brotato. The words you wrote are all in English, yet all together are completely incomprehensible to me.Meste17 wrote:Guys?

I went with the last option. Sorry for the delay.
Don't you hear my call, though you're many years away, don't you hear me calling you?

I went with GCS, it seems the best of the options.

What is the "Galactic Commonwealth"?
Give a man a fire, and you keep him warm for a day. SET a man on fire, and you will keep him warm for the rest of his life...
Re: Rise Like Lions - Commonwealth vessels
It is the newfound organization that, apparently, is the new mirror universe version of the United Federation of Planets. It can be found here:Graham Kennedy wrote:What is the "Galactic Commonwealth"?

According to the article:
In the mirror universe, the Galactic Commonwealth was an organization founded in the year 2378 that replaced the Terran Rebellion following the establishment of the Tripartite Armistice with the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance and the end of decades of enslavement. The Commonwealth consisted of more than two dozen worlds in a twenty light-year span from Sol and was surrounded by a ten light-year wide neutral zone that blocked Alliance vessels access to Commonwealth worlds. One of the Galactic Commonwealth's first allies was the Romulan Star Empire, which the Rebellion had also helped to return to power.
A descendant of the Terran Empire, the Commonwealth was heavily influenced by the efforts of Spock and the Memory Omega project that he instituted. The Commonwealth focused on promoting the common good for all races and strived to avoid returning to the imperialistic ways of its past. It launched multiple social programs and conducted missions to repair the damage that had been caused to multiple worlds by both the Alliance and the Empire that came before it. The Commonwealth also employed a naval force that consisted of several vessels including the Defiant and the Enterprise, with the Enterprise as the flagship.
Headquartered from the planet Deneva, the Commonwealth was headed by a chairman and overseen by the Commonwealth Assembly. It consisted of Terrans, Andorians, Tellarites, Vulcans and several other races. As of 2381 the Chairman of the Commonwealth is Michael Eddington. (ST novel: Rise Like Lions)

Re: Rise Like Lions - Commonwealth vessels
Neither did I until I read the novel. It was actually quite good for a little read .... and it was so exciting. I figured it was about time they brought the Enterprise in .... even if it was only a rebel ship.Graham Kennedy wrote:Okay, didn't know any of that

I never liked the DS9 version of the Mirror Universe. Enterprise got it exactly right.

Totally agree GK.
What does defeat mean to you?
Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.
