50 years and counting

So, fifty years ago today, Star Trek first aired on television.

Who could have imagined it would still be around half a century later?!

Wonder if they will still be making it fifty years from now...

Hopefully they will.

Happy anniversary to my favorite franchise of them all. :D

We appreciate you writing it up. :) And we appreciate you and Ian running this site. Still one of the best damned Trek sites out there. Thanks, dudes. :D

I still like ENT and the NX-design. :P

I got sick of it and stopped watching at the end of season one with Shockwave.

However recently with an Amazon prime subscription I've returned to the series and I'm actually quite enjoying season 3. I could make quite a few nits, but nevertheless I have to admit I'm quite enjoying the episodes.

I was never bothered by the ship cosmetically seeming more "advanced." That's the kind of thing that goes back and forth. In many ways the old "chrome and fins" car style looks more modern than most of what we have now. And I'm seeing a lot of "hipster" restaurants and things popping up around here where unfinished wood decor and serving things on planks instead of plates is "in"

Season 3 of Enterprise was a serious step-up from 1 and 2. Season 4 was what the show should have been in the first place.

Had it continued, season 5 would have laid more ground-work for the Earth-Romulan war and the subsequent formation of the Federation.

I always wondered about that. They set Enterprise so close to the formation of the Federation... but not close enough that we would ever see it. Odd choice.

Always cheesed me off it got cancelled when it did. TNG had a rough first two seasons. DSN took that long to find its footing, too. Just... :bangwall:

Maybe they hoped to continue the seven season trend and set the time so they could have that be the final episodes?

Wouldn't have mattered. The show started in 2151, so even a full seven seasons would only take them to 2158. Earth-Romulan war started in 2156, ended in 2160, and the Federation was formed in 2161.

So if Enterprise had gotten a full run, the show would have ended in the middle of the Romulan war. They'd have to spend the last two years of the show doing the Romulan war, and then just leave it still going on at the end.

Maybe skip ahead to the Earth/Romulan Wars and the founding of the Federation would've been better.

Filming a sack full of cats would've been better.

I crammed some STOS over the weekend. I don't think that I realized how many times Kirk and crew went back in time. Now I understand why they said "Kirk... that man was a menace!" on DS9.

And what is up with BBCA's love affair with Star Trek?
