Rewatching the series

I got seasons three and four this Thursday. I'm rewatching it and...
1. G'Kar is badass.
2. Kosh the First was actually a pretty cool guy.
3. I actually like the effects.
4. Cartagia's even more insane than I remember.
5. Lorien, I'd love immortality. You don't want yours, I'll GLADLY take it.

Rewatched it myself last year. Takes at least one rewatch to appreciate how well the whole show was planned out.
G'Kar was indeed badass, and had the best character development in the show IMO

I'd say it's a tossup between Londo and G'Kar.

I have every Babylon 5 series, film, and offshoot. I love the setting. G'Kar is by far my favourite character, closely followed by Londo.
I am currently rewatching again from the first series (I rewatch the entire lot at least once a year).
It is a great shame that many of the cast have passed on beyond the rim.

G'kar was my favorite as well. Katsulas did an amazing actig job. Really helped offset some of the questionable acting by other main characters.
As to the character development question... I agree with both comments above... in a way. I think that the writers did a better job at fleshing out Londo and going into his mind and developing his character that way, depth. G'Kar developed as a character the most though. He went from someone that was relatively one dimentional and just wanted revenge, to a very inportant player in B5, the Shadow war and "religious" icon to his own people, breadth.
Londo did change his "political" position, but his change was not as far a journey as G'Kar's. G'Kar's transformation was much bigger than Londo's, but the writing seemed to push it alond easier than Londo's journey.

After hearing what Michael O'Hare went through during season one... DAMN.
Also, I sometimes wanna send the Minbari to fight Time War-era Daleks. Like the episode I'm watching right now, 'Atonement'.

At a convention in Phoenix, Arizona, Straczynski fulfilled a nineteen-year-old promise by revealing the real reason O'Hare left the show. O'Hare had been suffering a debilitating psychiatric condition during the filming of the first season. He had good days and bad days, but getting the full medical treatment he needed would take much longer than the relatively brief hiatus between seasons. Straczynski offered to shut down production of the series so O'Hare could get the treatment he needed, but O'Hare refused to put the jobs of the hundreds of people involved in the making of the series at risk. Instead, O'Hare chose to leave and return when his treatment permitted to conclude his character arc. Ultimately, he reappeared in one episode of Season 2 and two of Season 3 to round off his storyline. Straczynski promised O'Hare to keep the reason for his departure to his grave, but O'Hare only asked him to keep it until he reached his grave.

Yeah. There were about a thousand ways it could've gone horribly wrong. Kudos to both of them for how it was handled.

The fact they managed to write in a reasonably convincing way for him to leave, the fact he continued to work all the way through the season...the fact that JMS was willing to hold the entire show for his treatment. All round amazing.
