A few years not several. I gave Starfleet little credit if they can rebuild the Engineering hull from micro fragments.

Personally I would have just liked as mention like Picard saving planet 543 from a Dominion task force or Picard negotiate alliance with the Tamarians.

Indeed. Heck, I like to think I demonstrated how it could've been done in "In the Pale Moonlight" without detracting or substantially changing the plot...
