War of the Week 2

Post by Deepcrush »

Vulcans vs the Andorians.

This one was a good idea to me as it would have shown the two early fleets taking each other on without having the mass scale of the AQ war. It would be a very 'close to home' type of war.

Tough call, Deep. I think two factors tip the scales slightly in favor of the Andorians:

1 - The Vulcans of the time are just struggling to embrace relatively new, pacifistic doctrines. Going back to "the old ways" may be very distasteful to some.

2 - Somewhat related to that point is the fact that there is already civil unrest on Vulcan with warlike and pacifist factions going at each other.

In a simple force v. force comparison, however, I think the Vulcan fleet has the edge in starfaring experience, ship numbers, and probably in individual ship strength.

All well made points. I myself would also go with the vulcans.

Depends who strikes first, if the Andorians could get a good strong blow first the Vulcans would have so much infighting and attempts to get a cohesive opinion that whatever Vulcan commanders did strike back wouldn't be fully co- ordinated. However once they did (if allowed by the Andorian battle strategy) get their act together I'd say the Vulcans would be pretty formidable enemies.
If the Vulcans somehow managed to get full opinion behind the military option there is still the actual number of ships to consider. While the Andorians do seem to have smaller ships I'd imagine they do have more due to their seemingly more aggressive nature.

Any guesses on actual fleet strengths or for that matter what industrial base they would be working from?

Em, do we actualy have any info on either of these groups in relation to numbers, territory, resources, industrial capacity, etc? Without these, calling a winner is pretty much impossible.

No we don't - everybody's right! Or, everybody's wrong, depending on how you look at things...

I think the Andorians would win. They seem to use actual military tactics and the civil unrest on Vulcan would not help the Vulcan war effort.

Yeah I wasnt going to make a new one of these since if we did TNG era we would be rehashing what has already been said and TOS we have no info about. Kinda pointless to debate with no facts.

Sounds like a debate on religion.

Did we ever see the Vulcan ships in combat? My memories of Enterprise are fading fast.

Yes, but I don't recall anything that would point to fleet size.

It just involves some deep breathing exercises and meditation to cleanse the mind.....
:D
Seriously, good and bad tends to stick in the memory. So much of Enterprise was just so bland, it just didn't lodge in my mind.

And of course for me, I liked so much of it it sticks in the brain. :)

I don't recall seeing the Vulcan ships getting much of any screentime to judge their strengths. Really, there's way too many unknowns for this fight.
