Re: History of Starfleet
So what? Just because the CIA did that in no way speaks to Seafort's point - on the contrary, their willingness to operate outside the moral and legal code of the U.S. makes them more akin to S31 rather than less.

I wasn't contradicting Seafort's point. Just stating that a country's morality is rarely shown in the action of its intelligence agencies.Mikey wrote:So what? But the CIA reports to the Congress, which then condone or condemn its actions (more one than ther other), which makes the Congress partyl responsible for the misdeeds the CIA commits.
Section 31 reports to nobody.

I'm not sure, but I believe the CIA reports to the executive branch of government not the legislative branch. Congress has its own intelligence committee (ha!)

How do they chose the membership? A rota, so everyone has a turn with the braincell?Mikey wrote:Congress has its own intelligence committee (ha!)

U sure? I thought after the Pig Bay debacle, the CIA had a reform that forced it to report directly to congress?Mikey wrote:I'm not sure, but I believe the CIA reports to the executive branch of government not the legislative branch. Congress has its own intelligence committee (ha!)
Anyway, if you say otherwise, I'll roll with it. My memory about intel organisation isn't that perfect (that's how They want it to be)

Nor is mine, but I thought they had to open the books and accounting to Congress, while operations weren't under congressional purview.SolkaTruesilver wrote:U sure? Yes, and? Even for DITL it seems a rather abrupt change of topic.

The CIA takes orders from the Commander and Chief but has to answer to a Senate Oversight committee each year on their operations, effects and costs.
