Fed Battlestar ground component

As discussed in the other thread, I'm working up an order of battle for the embarked marine/army contingent of our Fed battlestar, with a total strength of 10,000 men. It's mostly done, with just a couple of battalion organisations to establish.

I'm considering two divisional structures, one with two brigades, each of two armoured regiments and two armoured infantry battalions, with four sub-units at each level, the other triangular throughout, with a 2:1 armoured infantry:armoured ratio in the brigades. I'm strongly leaning towards the latter at the moment.

Divisional troops will consist of battalion level units of artillery, engineers, logistics, equipment support and signals.

The "strike vehicles".....are they going to be a new design, borrowed from somewhere else, or modified Trek tech?

I'm thinking of the full gamut of modern kit - MBT, IFV, APC, ARRV, recce, AVRE, (AVFE?), etc. Stick phasers on them in place of modern weapons and off you go.

Slightly off topic.....my favorite looking assault vehicle from a sci fi franchise was the drop shop from Aliens 8)

I'm not considering drops ships - they're part of the air wing. Likewise, any air support would be provided by the air wing, not organic. Every vehicle I'm considering as part of this TOE will be tracked, wheeled or antigrav.

While true, we still want our ground forces to have say in the equipment they use. So if you know of a better suited craft that can be produced with Trek tech, please tell us so.

I've never seen Aliens, so I can't comment. The best option would be an enclosed version of your standard current landing craft. Hit the deck, drop the ramp, and away you go.

I'm considering adding a dedicated air assault battalion to the orbat if there are numbers left over. If so, then we'd need to discuss their vehicle requirements, but until then a craft capable of transporting four IFVs or three MBTs/variants will be sufficient.

The transport from Aliens carried a single Armored Vehicle plus one squad to one platoon of troops. It was also armed with warheads and forward guns.

Sounds both smaller and more heavily armed than I'm thinking of. My preference would be for a transport to carry a full platoon/troop - three or four vehicles, shielded but without serious weapons, with CAS provided by fighters.

The transport from Aliens is meant for rapid deployments. The ship doesn't even have to land all the way to unload its cargo. I was hoping to find a clip on youtube but no luck.
