New Cap City's Dirigible Aircraft Carrier & Combat Aircraft
Re: New Cap City's Dirigible Aircraft Carrier & Combat Aircraft
Which part, I'll try and get a clearer cap.
"You ain't gonna get off down the trail a mile or two, and go missing your wife or something, like our last cook done, are you?"

Top left, off to the right of the cockpit, on top of and below what appears to be windows. They've got greenish colouring in the top right corner.

Look like Antennae to me. Could be wrong though.

Yeah, looks like an antenna.

Since it seems to me that New Cap City is based on a 1920s-ish style. Airships and prop planes aren't really hard to believe.

That last one actually looks like an autogryo.

It is, I just checked the episode. Theres rotors above the tips of the wings. Guess it'd make sense for machinegunning people, you wouldn't have to fly as fast.Cpl Kendall wrote:That last one actually looks like an autogryo.

Yeah, I can just make it out in your first pic.

The helo is based off of the Focke Wulf Fw-61 from WWII.

Excellent pics, Kostmayer.
In total, I can count an additional four turrets on the flank of the airship, along with another two dorsally mounted. I'm willing to bet that it's the same on both sides, so that's a total of fifteen cannons (four per side, four on top, two in the prow and one midship).
Also, I can see five propellers per side - though they're all pointed aft, leaving me to wonder just how this thing is still floating. Some sort of anti-grav? From what we can see, Pre-War Caprica was quite a bit more advanced than what we see just prior to the Fall, so it's possible though unlikely.

Those guns look frigging big. They look sorta like the duel turrets you found onvCounty class cruisers.

Ok, bugger building another Starship, can we all get our stempunked heads together and design ourselves an Airship fleet?
Couple or Carriers, a few gun platforms, dedicated bombers..
Seriously, how practical would one of these things be for say, holding an occupied city? The latest airship designs I've seen lately can stay aloft damn near indefinitely as it is using solar power? Could you plonk a nuclear reactor in one of these things and turn it into a permanent command post?

Quite practical, if we assume some more advancements in nuclear power tech.kostmayer wrote:Could you plonk a nuclear reactor in one of these things and turn it into a permanent command post?
For example, right now there are hand-held nuclear reactors being experimented with. And I recall hearing about a mini-reactor the size of a car capable of powering an appartment block. With enough bouancy (or enough propellers keeping the thing up) then it'd be possible to mount one on a dirigible.
As silly as the idea is in reality, that's certainly a cool concept.kostmayer wrote:Ok, bugger building another Starship, can we all get our stempunked heads together and design ourselves an Airship fleet?
Everything's better with airships!

I'm hoping to see a few more in the sky over the next decade or so, there's so very cool concepts in the works :- Floating hotels with zero environmental impact, replacements for GPS satellites and Mobile Phone masts, lost distance cargo haulage..
