I'm thinking a primarily ground based team, with the Dauntless and puddle jumpers held in reserve. This point is up for discussion though. As I said, I'm seeing something like an upgraded and high tech version of the SGC as our home base. Human built, but with the best tech that we have.

Oh, what about nBSG Galactica CIC but with touch screens and holograms rather then glass panes with little models?

That works for me. But with better containment security in the gateroom. Atlantis had like, none. And the SGC really wasn't designed with that in mind.

Atlantis had a shield powered by a ZPM...
But I agree, a platoon of Marines solely set for gate defense would be wise. Also, maybe the gate should open into a lowered area with the defense units two or three stories up.

Maybe have a large lift platform for heavy cargo or vehicles, and a second platform for SG teams.

I like it, include a couple of ring platforms for transport from ships in orbit. Being that we'll be running into Gould ships, any allies we make will be using ring platforms so its best that they land in an area of our choosing. Also some opening into the main hanger for our Puddlejumpers to move between. They don't really need lifts so we should have a way for them to fly freely between their hanger and the gate room.

I think we need to really play up the level of sufficiency this colony is going to need. What about Biodomes, or some form of food supply? A ZPM can power a base, but it can't make a good bowl of spaghetti.

Aren't we going to have Asguard matter replication tech? Guys...we're getting a little far afield with the base. Assume that we will have adaquate non perishable stores for a year of regular use (food, water, ammo, uniforms), and are getting constant resupply from Earth through the gate every month or so. The whole basis for this is NOT to be cut off (ala SG:A season one) but be far enough from help that we need to explore, forge alliances, and basically recon the area. Once we engage the baddies, we can call for more ships, or maybe even. We have one cap ship and six puddle jumpers.
We'll be on a earth like planet with heavy forests, mountains (w\caves and tunnels), oceans, and a massive jungle. We will manage with food

Do you mean ala SG:A? Not yet. At this point, we have a ZPM powering at the SGC, and another in OUR facility backed up with Naquida generators for ample power. We can move unrestricted between Earth and (we've got to name our base planet)
