I can only imagine what they'll do to previously established backstory...

Especially since the director pretty much said he didn't care too much about the established 'Trek universe... :x

With those words, my faith in ST:XI just dropped like a brick.

I'm paraphrasing to make my point - but good ol' JJ did in fact say that he wouldn't let the established backstory stand in the way of HIS story... :?

Yeah, I mean, why let something like continuity stand in your way.

Look on the bright side, at least when B&B were called on their BS, their response wasn't that their detractors "all need garroting" and they didn't expreess a desire to "rip their throats out of their pitiful unworthy necks." Certain hacks with zero regard to continuity have been known to do that.

My apologies for the misunderstanding. I was simply widening the issue of continuity from simply Trek to continuity across sci-fi generally. Traviss' somewhat explosive reaction to critisim was the one I was most famillliar with. Star Trek may have serious issues with idiots ignoring continuity, but at least B&B never started throwing around language like "ripping tracheas out".

Indeed. That's something, at least.

As the first two series (I haven't seen the third series) of Lost provided me with the most entertaining few hours of TV I've seen in the last few years, I'm more than prepared to give Abrams the benefit of the doubt.

Cool, I only noticed it was the same guy.
My opinions of this film's future just went up, very slightly.
