A quote of the "Star Wars, Episode 1" Visual Dictionary, which is canon I believe.

"Of the teeming trillions of species that populate the galaxy, very few become full-fledged Jedi Knights: the ranks based on Coruscant number only about 10,000."

So according to this, there are Trillions of species in the universe and the best army the republic could come up with number 3 million?

Thats certainly wrong in numbers. Even if the battle droids are actual just a bit more than scrap material. But one explanation is, that there were several millions of CLONES in the beginning of the war and later on the ranks were filled with billions of new RECRUITS (although it would have made order 66 a little harder *ggg*). So we just put several zeros behind those 3 millions *gg*

Question for Avatar2312:

If the Republic had no standing military then how do you propose that they crew these ships in storage? One cannot magic a military into existence.

As for this, it's possibly the most dishonest thing I've seen posted on DITL. Yeah, Earth has billions of species but one sapient species. The Trillions of species in SW is for sapient species, unless you care to argue that the Republic recruited insects, dogs and ducks.

Btw. They had combat ships. But I believe they were not treated as standing war-time military, but more like localized police-force regarding the Ruusian Reformation. Imho that makes them no standing military but a civilian controlled force.
