Dominion War Redux

Post by Bryan Moore »

With most of the Alpha Quadrant powers devastated after the Borg invasions depicted in the Destiny Trilogy, wouldn't it be an awesome time for the Dominion to strike back at the Alpha Quadrant? We don't know how badly the Dominion was harmed during the war, but with the Founders cured and I'm sure a lot of building going on in the Gamma Quadrant, if I were the Feds I'd be afraid of a fleet of tens of thousands pouring out of the Wormhole.

The Founders were terrified of the Allies at the end of the DW. SF may have suffered losses but they were also turning out ships as fast as possible. Every year that passes means more ships in the fleet.

The Klingon Empire is going to be spending some time repairing but Martok is still a loyal friend of the Federation.

The Romulans are mostly on the fence as I see it.

The Cardassians are a wreck.

The Breen are the only loyal Allies the Dominion had and they are trapped between the three super powers of the AQ/BQ.

As to the Dominion. They suffered horrible losses. They had a large force left around Cardassia Prime but even then the Allies expected only 30% (?) losses to end the war. Dominion forces in the GQ were also hurt when the Profits whipped out every Dominion ship and outpost within thought! DS9 alone took out 50 Dominion ships. If a small fleet would have been there the losses could have skyrocketed! If the Dominion had tens of thousands of ships they wouldn't have only stocked the Wormhole 2000.

In addition, do you think S31 just "forgot" about the instant-death bioweapon they could inflict on the Founders?

They'd still have it, alright, but introducing it would be a problem.

The Founders know it exists now. They'd probably blockade their side of the wormhole to prevent any secret incursions and relocate to a hidden base for the duration of the war. With no way to introduce it to the species, S31's virus would be useless.

Hardly a chance they would want to take. Easier to just not piss off the Federation.
What does defeat mean to you?

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

Yep. I doubt they'd be willing to leave the possibility of total destruction of their race up to some defensive measures.

That and any war would have to come through the Worm Hole guarded by the Profits. Even if they let them through, its a choke point. You're looking at the beefed up DS9 plus mine field plus the 9th fleet.

And the presence of the Virus in the Alpha quadrant means no chance of infiltration by the founders.
Just infect everyplace of importance and "Adieu Changelings"...

Does anyone else here think it would be a good idea to build something like Starbase 74 at the mouth of the Wormhole? It would be far better for trade and maintaining ships in the area. The Bajorans could used the internal spaces to begin building their own defense fleet. Plus her size means that Kira could load the place out with weapons and shields. You'd need several hundred ships just to deal with the station let alone the 9th fleet protecting the station.

Agreed, that would be a major priority for me if I was in charge of the Federation.

It would make me feel better than relying on the whims of superbeings living in a wormhole and the words of a race that looks down on all "solid" creatures as inferior beings.

Totally agree. I would do everything I could, too, to secure rights to the other side of the wormhole. Forget just a starbase, I'd have weapons emplacements, lots of places for commercial ships to dock, and quite possibly a casino and a Margaritaville to attract Asians and Parrotheads.

Just don't lose your shaker of salt, it just might be a Naussican that claims it  . Isn't the Gamma end in open space and not in any powers sphere of influence?

Bad idea. Since this very thing started the war to begin with. The smart thing to do is just leave the other side alone.
Forget just a starbase, I'd have weapons emplacements,
If you have so many weapons that you can't fit them on a Spacedock Station then you've gone to far. Bajor isn't going to want a war starting on its door step because someone decides to act a fool.
lots of places for commercial ships to dock,
Again, this is a Spacedock Station. There's more then enough room to fit several DS9s inside. Let alone the traffic that came out of the GQ.

I concur, a massive military space station at the mouth of the wormhole is just what we need.
Hell, if possible try and get the Tholians to give you the specs to their web spinners, and then cover the mouth of the wormhole completely. Then nothing's getting through.
