The way they seem to be going with it is that phasers can fire either a beam or a pulse. I think they did that in TOS, but I may be wrong.

Yeah, according to something I read, it can fire either a high powered pulse, or a low power beam, depending on the power setting of the phasers at the time they are fired.

We did see in the original TOS (I don't have the remasters) phasers which actually looked more like torps - staccato pulses. OOU, it's a simple FX inconsistency; IU, it's a pulse rather than a beam.

I think it's a neat looking effect.

Looks like the tube is on the lower part of the neck, but is it one tube or two? And will there be a tube firing aft? Hopefully they'll publish a tech journal.

It's tough to tell, but are those beams originating from no point in particular? That is, I don't see any particular feature where those beams seem to intersect the ship that would be a launcher/bank/battery/cannon.

IIRC seeing some clips from the movie the forward turrets and the forward turrets from the port and starboard phaser banks were firing. I also think that both top and bottom phasers were firing. It looked like some sort of cover fire to keep incoming torpedos from hitting the ship.

Individual turrets within each bank? I'll have to remember to keep an eye out for that.

If I get your drift, yeah like the TMP phaser banks. Each bank consisted of ball turrets. Some were individual turrets, above the shuttle doors. In pairs as seen on the primary hull. And 5 turrets as seen on the bottom of the engineering hull.

The TNG tech manual states that each phaser strip has individual segments, but of course we've never seen them fire individually and.

And, as Graham has stated I think, that would obviously be an awesome site.
