In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Even Kevlar can only take so much, and it doesn't protect other vital areas. :happydevil:

Eh. To heck with the media.

We will uncover your dastardly plot, bypass the media scoundrels altogether and come directly after YOU! :happydevil:

Anyway, my prediction is that some stuff will happen and some fans will be royally pissed off, others'll love it, and still other's will recognize that the studio is making a business decision here to try and update the franchise and it really has no bearing on the accuracy of the established universe.

I think that much is obvious, about updating the franchise I mean. It's dead on it's feet and the only thing that's propping it up is the likes of you and I who still talk about 40, 20, 10 and 5 year old Star Trek episodes even now. Whether we like it or not, if Trek is to have a real future, it needs a fresh approach and a fresh audience. TOS and TNG will never go away (we'd never let it!) but will be complimented by the newer version of it. In this day and age, it's all about pretty young actors and cool special effects (the latter unavailable when TOS and TNG were brand new) and if you can weave that into the broad outline of Roddenberry's Trek universe, it may just have a chance. I'm grateful for what we've had so far and would never change it for the world but I also like the thought that there's more to come too. I just don't think there would be more to come without a fundemental overhaul of the franchise :)
