The big question for ST:XI
Will we see Kirk with his shirt off in hand to hand combat?
I haven't seen a whole lot of TOS, so I don't know how many times that actually happened. I thought that was kind of a cliche, but I could be wrong....

Well it often got torn, but I think there were some instances where he took it off completely. It will be interesting, though, to see how many little Easter eggs they've thrown in for the fans. Do you think we'll see a redshirt get bumped off?

Hell, there'll have to be at least one moment where they bump off some unimportant security dude as if he were no more than a fly to be swatted. Otherwise, how would we know just how badass the villain is, and thus how much more badass our heroes are for defeating him?
Warning: Erwin Schrodinger will kill you like a cat in a box. Maybe.

Remember, it's a young Kirk. That's why he's in his undershirt all the time - he hasn't quite perfected the art of in situ shirt removal yet.

Isn't Abrams a Trek fan?Do you think we'll see a redshirt get bumped off?
If so, expect Redshirts to die in droves.
Kirk: "Yes admiral, I eventualy defeated the enemy by sending wave after wave of my own troops towards the enemy's guns."

Not according to this video of the 2007 comic con panel announcing ST:XI, he said he was "more of a STAR WARS fan"!Rochey wrote:Isn't Abrams a Trek fan?Do you think we'll see a redshirt get bumped off?

EDIT: Ok, he DID still say "but I love Trek." Nice save.

Re: The big question for ST:XI
There is a conversation in J J Abrams Lost series where the character Hurley explains the concept of the Red Shirt to Sawyer. It's a little bit meta as there had been a lot of comparisons made between the "background survivors" and Red Shirts on the web. Hurley's dialogue often echoes the fan discussions on forums, which was fun at first, but is starting to grate a little.

That's what they need. A "Redshirt Survivors Support Group"!

Oddly, I had never heard of the "redshirt" idea until I joined these forums.

Oh man, a while ago somebody posted this awesome redshirt survival statistic sheet. That was an awesome read.
