Wasp class medium fighter
The Wasp class medium fighter is probably the most common sub-ship found in the alliance navy. Relatively well armed and with very capable armaments, she is favoured among her pilots for the solid construction and high survival rates. She is armed with 3 x twin pulse fire 40mm plasma cannons, 2 mounted in fixed directional fire on the wings, and a single twin mounted in a turret on the bow. The turret mounting allows this fighter to provide light anti-vehicular support to ground operations, as well as some anti-personel support. There are two pilots, one to fly the vessel and operate the wing mounted cannons, and one to coordinate sensor information, communications as well as utilize the turret which is rarely used against other fighters. The pilots have barely room to maneuver, remaining in their seats for the duration of the flight. as such it is rare for a flight to last longer than a 5 hours. She is capable of atmospheric flight, due to her pair of wings.

Not bad. Nice, thin target profile.

Tough to tell from the side elevation, but it looks like a nice, broad wing - very useful if supporting slower columns of armor in an atmospheric role.

Nice but uh how does she land? Wheels? legs sprout? Metal strong enough she can just drop?
How many Minbari does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
None. They always surrender right before they finish the job and never tell you why.

Depends. most hangar bays have support clamps to grab on to a fighter at the top of the hangar, but these things can just simply set down on the deck fairly simply.
Re: Wasp class medium fighter
Are there also purely spaceborne fighters, and if yes, do they also have wings?

I thought you said they had a role as ground-support craft - can they do that with a chin-turret weapon effectively from high orbit?Reliant121 wrote:There are purely space born fighters, but they are lighter armed. they do not have wings.

I decided to redesign it completely, i wasnt happy with the old one. Landing and all the rest of it is all the same, although rough landings can be awkward as the nose just drops. But yeah, feast your eyes.

Yep, not an aircraft I'd want to belly. If the undercarrage fails, you're dead - the nose will drop, bite, and it'll cartwheel. Then again, I assume it's got some kind of ejection system, so that isn't so much of a problem.
