A great book by Arthur C Clarke; it's an easy read, and a great realistic sci-fi story. I just re-read it recently (when my computer was out
), and remembered how cool it is. Anyone else read it?

I read it about a million years ago, but I remember very little of it.

Didn't read it. I must look out for it in the library.

Ditto. I remember only a few things about it... the plot outline of the ship arriving, basically. I remember thinking it wasn't all that great at the time, but was an okay read.

I think part of the problem I had with Clarke (if you could call it a problem) was that I read 2001 first, and sort of unconsciously held everything up to that standard.

Even da Vinci had some bad efforts.
I think I like it so much due to nostalgia: I read it when I was nine, and it was one of the first "hard" sci-fi stories I ever read. Keep your puns to yourself.

I feel the same way about Stranger in a Stragne Land.

I read that the same year.
Speaking of Heinlein, I loaned Uzume my copy of
Have Spacesuit - Will Travel recently; she loved it.

I also enjoyed the similarly-titled
Stranger in a Strange Land.

I was trying to pre-empt the sh*tstorm of correction from the spelling Gestapo (AKA Tsukiyumi.)

I was going to let it go, seeing as it was your birthday, and Yom Kippur and all.

I appreciate the thought.

Contrary to popular belief, I do, in fact, have a heart.
