Dang, Tsu, good luck. And Stitch might have a point. Depending on how bada$$ you want your computer to be, upgrading the whole thing is almost as cheap these days as buying those two items separately. When you add in the headache factor of building your own and the lower level of reliability, for me it's no contest any more. If you go shopping, I've heard www.newegg.com is a good place to go.

I don't even get to use my laptop at home anymore. My roommate is on it constantly watching youtube or porn. The kind that I'm not into if you catch my drift. Last time I tried to use it, I had time to go to the kitchen, and make 2 hotpockets before it booted up.

You should put a password on it.

I know.........but I don't have the heart to take it away. As long as he doesn't leave his "entertainment" on screen when I need to use it, I don't mind EXCEPT, that he NEVER runs AVG, Spybot, or anything else.

Isn't there some law around here that should bar this topic from continually returning to topic? :DITL:

I'd be careful, most of "those" websites have spyware or viruses, and then you have...P.C.V.D! You can get a free antivirus program that works better than Norton from http://www.avast.com/. And did I mention it's free?

At that point why not just bye a new computer?
For one thing, nearly everything else on my system is new. For another, I have approximately $300 I can afford to spend. I'm fairly certain I can't buy a new system that cheap.

I've spent the last day trying to format the HD and re-install Windows; it kept freezing up and giving me odd errors even when the HD was blank... I'm almost certain the IDE port on my motherboard is faulty. It is six years old, after all; the BIOS is even older... I'm going later today to buy a new motherboard and processor; my mom is going to help me out, and I'll pay her later. I'm sure glad she's around to help.
