Admiral ranks

Post by Mark »

I just noticed the admiral ranks are listed as one star, two star, etc. Wouldn't it make more sense to have them as say, one pip Commodore (or Rear Admiral), two as Rear Admiral, three as Vice Admiral, four as Admiral, and five as Fleet Admiral??? Just an idea.

1 star admirals are ranked as rear admirals. 2 and 3 star admirals are just given star ranks and I imagin 5 star will be reffered to as fleet admirals.

So you want everyone to be refered to as the number of stars?

I see no problem keeping it as it is with 1 and 5 star admirals called rear and fleet and everyone else star numbers.

Could always have four be Fleet Admiral and five be Flag Admiral.

I think the issue is that we're using the work star and there's no stars. I'm fairly sure the names come from the encyclopedia.

I think it's fine the way it is, personaly.

The Encyclopedia just lsits them as 1 star, 2 star, etc. If TNG has used vice admiral and rear admiral and fleet admiral on screen I'd be happy to adopt them.

I thought they did. Vice Admiral Hanson for example. Honestly though, I could be wrong. It was just an idea.

Rear Admiral Norah Satie too - possibly in the Drumhead, and definitely in AGT when Picard is just taking command of the E-D, and says something like 'by order of Rear Admiral Norah Satie I am to take command of the E-D'.

What we are using comes from the site. On the site it's in green, which means it comes from a backstage source. That would be the a TM or Encyclopaedia etc. That page is yet to be converted into the database so we don't have a reference for it at the moment. The point remains that's the way it works in Trek so that's the way we stay.
Thanks
