Or it's simply a different religion or something. It wouldn't be the first time Klingon traditions have contradicted each other - look at the different attitudes towards the dead Worf showed in "Heart of Glory" and "The Ship".

The latter seemed more Worf humoring O'Brian then anything else.

Yup. I think it happened a lot to Worf to actually make up rituals and proverbs just to humor people.

"You cannot untie a man's tongue with root beer" is a favourite of mine.
