Says you... I'll be happy to let you know that most of my friends are as good with weapons as I am. And, thats not just limited to firearms thank you very much.

Well, if I were going to write an academy show, it would have started out focusing on one freshman cadet and his friends. There is no reason why, if the show was a hit, you couldn't do one season = one semester. That would literally double the length of the show, to eight seasons. If it was still going strong, it could show the cadets finally earn there commissions, and see they're first assignments, ( a junior officers perspective WAS only seen once) or the Ensign could always become an academy instructor himself I suppose.

All true; but that sort of change in perspective would necessarily change the angle of the show.

It would be even nicer if perspective would change about halfway through the series to focus on another freshman, so you can continue with another when cadet nr. 1 has finished the academy. Although the instructor thing is nice as well, they should leave some distance between graduation and installment as an instructor.

That works a little better, but now you've spent the bulk of a show creating sympathy and loyalty to a protagonist, only to have to try and transfer it.

It does give a sense of continuity though. Another way would be that the other cadet would be filmed in a spinoff, or as a sequel, in which both series overlap closely.

It could be made to work. I'm just saying that it's a self-limiting idea.

Aye, it'd be difficult to make that work. And it would just wind up as a soap set in the future. Not very interesting, IMO.

Easy enough. Halfway into season one, the cadet joins Red Squadren. Classes by day, covert training and mission ops during the down time.

You really think cadets, even the best ones, are going to be sent on important Starfleet missions?

Exactly. It would just be a show with a Wesley-esque character, and no one wants to see that.

Not really. The crew of the Valiant were in their situation by accident. They were never sent on a mission without an actual Starfleet crew; and they would have turned and run home if the ship was up to it.

They were put on one of starfleets most advanced and/or secret starship classes and sent out for training. It is possible they could be "attached" to an actual starfleet crew.
