Well, if they are Plasma Cannons then they may need a specific type of Plasma that the NX-01 couldn't reproduce on it's own. We know from one of Voyager's episodes that there are different types or grades or whatever(the one where B'Ellana fixed the robot and the Warp Plasma was more energetic then his normal plasma.) So I'm figuring that whatever powered the plasma cannons was limited and difficult to replace. The Phase cannons on the other hand seem to feed directly off the ship's main power systems which probably made them the prefered weapon, even when they had a chance to 'reload'. They probably even removed the plasma cannons after the phase cannons proved reliable.

That's a really good theory. Too bad a simple line of dialogue to explain that was never said.

What's the point of a Star Trek RP if you aren't going to use canon technology? Or be the least bit based in canon?

It is based on canon? all the other races are canon, as are there ships. as is the basic design of the NX.

wait a sec...what if we use particle cannons? like the ones found on Vulcan ships?

How do the particle cannons rate v. phase cannons? If they're more powerful, then I think people may disagree. The entire argument is the Enterprise was handled made them more advanced then they should've been, so if we give them more advanced Vulcan weapons, the firestorm will be unleashed. I'll compromise for a mix of plasma and phase cannons if necessary.
