Could Humanity take on the Romulans?

In TNG: The Defector, Admiral Jarok said the Romulans "have not forgotten the humiliating defeat at the Battle of Cheron," which by then had taken place centuries ago. This was the battle which supposedly ended the war, and from the way Jarok spoke of it, it was such a devastating loss that not only was it remembered for over a century after (although this isn't so long for a species with a life span as long as the Romulans as it is for us), but it presumably led to the Romulans bottling themselves up for a while. As to what made the Romulans climb into a hole between TOS and TNG, I have no clue.
It would have been great to see Enterprise show us the Battle of Cheron and the subsequent founding of the Federation, but that's not happening. It could still make a great movie, if anyone ever thought of it.

About as long as Vulcans, who they descended from. In "Unification," the Romulan senator Pardek was said to have been a member of the Romulan Senate for nine decades and to have been present at the Khitomer Conference.

Well, if allowed to grow old they could reach 200 years like the Vulcans, but due to back-stabbing and betrayal the average life-span would probably be 75 years old. Remember, it takes two Romulans to do anything. One to do it, one to kill him and take the credit.schizo-hal wrote:How long do Romulans live?
