I wonder if Pike was slightly racist towards Russians (he says tongue firmly in cheek)

""Russian Whizzkid, what's your name? Chanko? Chirpov?"

Wasn't that Kirk who said that line?

I think it was Pike...
What does defeat mean to you?

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

I thought the major cast were all good in their roles, especially Urban as McCoy. Kirk was portrayed as arrogant but with less of the sensitivity and compassion (though much of this was the writing); however, we may take this as a natural aspect of his youth in the film (we've seen how much Picard changed from his cadet days in "Tapestry"). He did show glimmers of the man he would become when he offered to save Nero in the end.

I cast my vote for Urban as McCoy it was almost like he was channeling Deforest Kelly. Great Performance.
Runner up to Quinto as Spock, although I guess it was easy having the original around.
