If you're feeling adventurous AND rich, get yourself an old surplus Centurion. They had one of the world's most difficult transmissions, and averaged about 0.5 mpg to boot.

Sorry for the necro but I liked this, it looks like it'd be fun to play with

That is awesome. I'd bet you wouldn't want to be caught in the middle of that.

Very cool - a Tico if I'm not mistaken. :)

I think it's actually Lake Erie, assuming this image is correctly attributed, it seems to be the same firing.

So those huge carriers, they must be really, really cumbersome beasts, right? Must take miles to turn, slow down, or speed up, right?

Wrong.

Someone remind whoever's driving that thing that it's a supercarrier, not a powerboat.

Do that during normal operations and I imagine you'd lose any aircraft that were not tied down over the side. Which would be a worthwhile trade if you're trying to dodge a missile or torpedo.

I can just imagine everyone and everything on board the ship getting slammed against the nearest starboard-side wall.

BTW, maybe it's just the angle of the picture, but does the island (correct term, yes?) on that carrier look very far aft? :?

It does - I'm guessing that's the angle of the pic along with the list of the ship making an optical illusion.
