Seems like here in NY the recent summers and winters both have been rather mild.

Here in Northern California, and I mean above Sacramento in the foothills, it's 36 F (2 C), but it feels like 25 F (-3 C), with about 3-6 inches of snow on the ground. I've got a wood burning stove with a fire going in it right now, and since our Dish Network is out right now, I'll put on RotJ later.

I live near the coast so while we get to freezing we dont get anymore than 1 or 2 degrees lower than that.

I get the same warming effect from living near the shore.

And mwhittington - I love a wood fire. What do you use? I like apple wood, myself.

Today it is -7F with the wind chill as -33F. that's -22C and the wind chill of -36C for Europeans. 10 minutes outside could result in frost bite.
