USS Vengence, bringing you peace and unity, whether you like it or not.

Kinda looks busy to me. What is with the obsession lately with ring shaped saucers? This is the first one seen on screen but it seems to be just wasteful of space. A ship this size may not need the space and what Trek related technology would need a ring shaped saucer?

I wonder if maybe that weird thing in the middle of it needs to have nothing around it...?

I assumed that given Trek's fascination with putting the command center of the ship in the most vulnerable position they could find that that was the bridge. Now accessable to enemy fire from a full 360 degrees.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

I thought the same thing. On the other hand, that could easily be a ploy, if the ship's strongest shields are at that point.

I clearly see, for myself, the work of a Star Wars fan: the Lucrehulk cargo doesn't need to look like a Donut but have this shape and a bubble inside the hole... There is a ring saucer here with a bridge inside the hole.

And the return of "industrial design" of the refit Enterprise without all the curves of the iEnterprise also came from it. That and the size of the Vengeance...

Complete speculation, but could there be another part of the ship that slots into the hole in the saucer section, and falls away to form another ship?

Kind of like a really really big Captains Yacht.

One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in Star Trek Into Darkness bind them

It is possible that shields function better with more surface area of the ship (more emitters) so they chose this shape to add more emitters without increasing the overall shield bubble... just a guess though.
