I always wondered what it would be like to drive a tank.
They say that in the Army,
the women are mighty fine.
They look like Phyllis Diller,
and walk like Frankenstein.

I've been in a couple of tanks. They felt roomy, because I was a kid; for an adult it would be cramped. Hot, stuffy, noisy, and with lots of opportunities to get hurt. Interesting, though.

It's hot, noisy, closed in and if it's not brand new than there's all sorts of chances to bash your head on shit that no longer has padding. It's also a pain in the ass to take off your body armour and webbing before you get in cause you can't fit through the goddamn hatch with it on.

Edit: And that is not a tank, it is a self-propelled gun. Which means it's actually quite roomy in the back.

Not at all but it's better than dying via IED because your APC is a glorified Brinks truck. Plus the Taliban are scared shitless of you.

Yes, they are. That's part of the point of having track pads (those rubber blocks in the treads), without them the road would be destroyed in short order.

Well not that particular one, it never went into production. But yeah, you could get a M113 and drive it all you want. Though if you did it at school I bet they would probably call the police.

Oh yeah. Bummer. Still would be cool to have. How much would a thing like that cost?

For just a surplus APC? Anywhere upto 30k, I saw a surplus Chieftain on an Aussie site about ten years for over 60K.

Edit: And depending on the vehicle and condition you could expect to spend thousands a year on maintenace and fuel.
