The Crusader 155mm self propelled howitzer.
Give a man a fire, and you keep him warm for a day. SET a man on fire, and you will keep him warm for the rest of his life...
Re: Cool pics
I always wondered what it would be like to drive a tank.

Re: Cool pics
I've been in a couple of tanks. They felt roomy, because I was a kid; for an adult it would be cramped. Hot, stuffy, noisy, and with lots of opportunities to get hurt. Interesting, though.

Re: Cool pics
It's hot, noisy, closed in and if it's not brand new than there's all sorts of chances to bash your head on shit that no longer has padding. It's also a pain in the ass to take off your body armour and webbing before you get in cause you can't fit through the goddamn hatch with it on.Mark wrote:I always wondered what it would be like to drive a tank.
Edit: And that is not a tank, it is a self-propelled gun. Which means it's actually quite roomy in the back.

Ahhh... not as glorious as they make it look like in the recruitment literature, then?

Re: Cool pics
Not at all but it's better than dying via IED because your APC is a glorified Brinks truck. Plus the Taliban are scared shitless of you.Mark wrote:Ahhh... not as glorious as they make it look like in the recruitment literature, then?

Yes, they are. That's part of the point of having track pads (those rubber blocks in the treads), without them the road would be destroyed in short order.stitch626 wrote:I wonder if those are legal on US highways...

Re: Cool pics
Well not that particular one, it never went into production. But yeah, you could get a M113 and drive it all you want. Though if you did it at school I bet they would probably call the police.stitch626 wrote: You serious! I could buy one and drive it to school!
Re: Cool pics
Oh yeah. Bummer. Still would be cool to have. How much would a thing like that cost?

Re: Cool pics
For just a surplus APC? Anywhere upto 30k, I saw a surplus Chieftain on an Aussie site about ten years for over 60K.stitch626 wrote:Oh yeah. Bummer. Still would be cool to have. How much would a thing like that cost?
Edit: And depending on the vehicle and condition you could expect to spend thousands a year on maintenace and fuel.
Re: Cool pics
Yikes! Never mind then. Not worth it.
