New rank system proposal

Post by Graham Kennedy »

As things currently stand, the system is this...

Ensign 0 - 199
Lieutenant jg 200 - 399
Lieutenant 400 - 799
Lieutenant Commander 800 - 1199
Commander 1200 - 1799
Captain 1800 - 3999
Rear Admiral 4000 - 6999
2 Star Admiral 7000 - 9999
3 Star Admiral 10,000 - ?
4 Star Admiral ? - ?
Fleet Admiral ?

Since a few have asked for enlisted officer ranks, the system we're thinking of is this :

Crewman 0 - 9

Petty officer third class 10 - 19
Petty officer second class 20 - 29
Petty officer first class 30 - 39
Chief petty officer 40 - 59
Senior chief petty officer 60 - 79
Master chief petty officer 80 - 99

Ensign 100 - 199
Lieutenant jg 200 - 399
Lieutenant 400 - 799
Lieutenant Commander 800 - 1199
Commander 1200 - 1799
Captain 1800 - 3999
Rear Admiral 4000 - 6999
2 Star Admiral 7000 - 9999
3 Star Admiral 10,000 - ?
4 Star Admiral ? - ?
Fleet Admiral ?

Under this system the major changes will be that all the zero post and very low post accounts will go from Ensign to Crewman. The vast majority of these are people who never post. Most of the rest are people who posted a few times and then stopped, months ago. About ten or so people seem to be active posters who are relatively new. They lose out in that they get demoted. But on the upside, they then get pretty frequent promotions!

We're going to put this to a vote; the choices are, this system or stay as we are and have no enlisted ranks. We are not going to haggle over other ways to implement this, we'll be here forever if we do that! So it's this or nothing.

So what say ye?

I like it. It gives the newcomer something to shoot for, and a tangible sense of contributing, and being acknowledged for their contributions.

Not bad - it might encourage a curious once or twice poster to become more active.

Plus, I lose nothing! :D

Oh, we forgot to say, all Admirals get to go back to Crewman to start again. :happydevil:

Nice.

I like the idea. Gives newbies something to work for.

Don't worry Mikey.....it could work out well. People tend to take Master Chiefs more seriously than Admirals anyway

Why would you want to change your vote? Surely you weren't so impatient that you went and voted before thinking things through.... right? :)

I just edited the OP to add change vote option.

There's nothing wrong with it I can see; as you said, it won't change my status. I joined this forum out of curiosity, unsure of how much I would post but wound up becoming one of the circle of regular posters, having made Commander within 3/4 of a year. However, many who join like I did never make more than a handful of posts.
