‘Star Wars’ Future Will Be ‘Television,’ Says Bob Iger

The future of “Star Wars,” the space opera saga that Disney bought the rights to in 2012 when it purchased Lucasfilm for $4 billion, will be on the small screen. The release of “The Rise of Skywalker” last December ended the nine-film series about the Skywalker clan. It also led Disney to, Iger said, “take a bit of a hiatus in terms of theatrical releases.” The company believed it had over-saturated the market for “Star Wars” sequels and spinoffs — “The Rise of Skywalker” was the lowest grossing of the three most recent installments and 2018’s “Solo” lost money.

“The priority in the next few years is television,” Iger told investors.

Iger went on to confirm that the Obi-Wan Kenobi series starring Ewan McGregor and Rogue One prequel series with Diego Luna are both still in development. "And then we have a prequel to Rogue One and an Obi-Wan series also in development," Iger said. "So the priority for Star Wars in the short term is going to be television for Disney+ and then we’ll have more to say about the development of theatrical soon after that."

I haven't seen it. A bit of a long story, but... back in November of 2018, I had my checking account hacked and 2500 dollars stolen from it. Fast forward to now, and I read some articles that Disney + was having security issues with hacked accounts. So I've been more than a little reluctant to subscribe.

Happened to me too back in 2017. But joke was on them. I was broke at the time.

Thanks. I did get the money back, and haven't had any problems since. I think I will be subscribing to Disney + sooner rather than later.
