Noah Hawley To Write & Direct ‘Star Trek’ Film

EXCLUSIVE: Paramount Pictures is in final talks with Noah Hawley to write and direct a Star Trek film. Through his 26 Keys production banner he will produce along with JJ Abrams and his Bad Robot banner. I don’t have too much more to report on the film, but my understanding is Hawley will helm the fourth film in this iteration of the venerable franchise, with the Enterprise crew led by Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg and Karl Urban.

In addition to his groundbreaking series Legion, Hawley serves as executive producer, writer, director and showrunner on FX’s Emmy-winning limited series Fargo. He currently is in production on the fourth season, which stars Chris Rock, with Hawley directing the first episodes. Both series are produced under Hawley’s 26 Keys.

Hawley made his feature film directorial debut on Lucy in the Sky, which premiered at Toronto before Fox Searchlight released in the fall. The film stars Natalie Portman, Jon Hamm, Dan Stevens, Zazie Beetz, Pearl Amanda Dickson, Tig Notaro and Ellen Burstyn and chronicles the emotional post-mission deterioration of an astronaut (Portman).

The studio separately is working on a Star Trek spinoff that Quentin Tarantino is eyeing to direct and has been working on with Abrams. This one would likely carry an R rating, with a screenplay by The Revenant scribe Mark L. Smith.

4 minutes in "could serve as star trek 4, 5 or 6".

firstly: No, they cannot replace The Voyage Home. That has an underlying message right from modern times: stop f***ing up the planet! *cough* ahem,

second: There is no star trek 5. there will never be a star trek 5. why? same reason voyager fans suddenly reply to strange questions with "what threshold?"

third: The Undiscovered Country is a masterpiece. anyone who suggests something should replace it is a d**k.

That video has a lot of what's wrong since the introduction of the reboots. "The first film" and "the second film"... aren't the JJ films, they're The Motion Picture and The Wrath of Khan.
Not Star trek blank and the wrath of Kirk. Or robocop, because lets be honest, that particular character does have a beef with Kirk in that film: Kirk disobeyed orders to , ahem, "fire torpedoes on KRONOS" (never heard of the planet!) and the one who gave the order reacted to this breach. What was Khan's motivation in that film? against KIRK who HELPED him?

Lets look at the original: Space Seed. Khan wants to wake his crew, and go someplace, and oh look a STARSHIP that can get them there quicker. And he failed. TWOK: the place that they were basically sent to colonize, instead of going to prison, becomes an even worse one and they make the not-wholy-irrational leap to thinking that maybe Kirk did that on purpose for daring to try to take the Enterprise from him. but then.... BUT THEN! who shows up but Chekov, that guy who wasn't on the ca- crew yet he 'never forgets a face', even when hes never seen that face, and "you mean to say that he FORGOT about us?! EVEN YOU? You would research a planet in THIS SYSTEM and NOT NOTICE that the system is less a Planet? Really?"... Of course he was pissed!!

Star Trek Into Disease?
woken up and helps starfleet to get Improbably Large ships? then goes rogue and tries to kill the guy who woke him up? Wtf? I GET what they were trying to go with. 'Forced labour/fought back/starts out in the right of it, robocop was section 31 afterall', but the late-stage stuff just went, "... Seriously hollywood, can you NOT do an abortion job of rehashing a popular story with your own SHOCK GASP TWIST. a TRUE twist to the film would have been Kirk ending the film talking to Old Spock, "What, Khan? he was Sulu's best men at the wedding! His husband, you know, Mr Su.. What do you mean Sulu was straight in your timeline?"

(George Takei pretty much said somewhere that he didn't agree with making Sulu gay. I get in on the standpoint that: A Gay Actor doesn't have to ONLY play Gay Characters, and we shouldn't have to have the orientation of every character told to us because of a loose or close connection to something about orientation/aka Takei was gay so we're saying the character was)
