Hey! I totally didn't know if Jack was gonna make it or not!IanKennedy wrote:Yes, just like that Titanic film.
I didn't care, admittedly...

To be honest I'd love to see a historical film unexpectedly diverge from real events. (I mean like a film about the Titanic ending with it safely arriving in New York though, rather than just Braveheart or some shit.)

Like people survived Titanic, in the belly of Titanic itself! An air-pocket, and run-off from the coal engine allowed the survivors to mutate into fishmen! And fishwomen! This world is henceforth named Titlantis!Griffin wrote:To be honest I'd love to see a historical film unexpectedly diverge from real events. Like when Inglorious Basterds ended with Hitler being killed and WWII ending like a year or two early.Griffin wrote:To be honest I'd love to see a historical film unexpectedly diverge from real events. I don't mind that at all, so long as the movie is clear that that's what it's doing. I don't mind IB's alternate WWII because it's obviously intended to be a counterfactual. It's not like Tarantino just forgot how WWII really ended or something, he did it on purpose and for a reason.
Compare to U-571, which shows Americans capturing the Enigma machine. It's pretty obvious that they're not trying to suggest that the movie takes place in an alternate reality where that happened... it's just that they wanted to make a story about Americans so that more Americans would watch it.
I still enjoy U-571 just fine, I just see it differently.

What like U-571, where the Americans save the day and crack enigma. When in truth it was a minor incident that had hardly any effect.Griffin wrote:To be honest I'd love to see a historical film unexpectedly diverge from real events.
