So this is happening...
A “Lost in Space” reboot to come to Netflix sometime this year. The tipping point that pushes me to the side of hope rather than despair is the inclusion of the phe-fucking-nomenal Toby Stephens.

Could be good, with that Netflix money behind it.

I don't necessarily think this is such a bad thing. I was never a fan of the original, but with that aforementioned Netflix funding, there's potential. I would expect this to be nothing like the wholly unnecessary 90's Matt LeBlanc remake and with the amount of effort that seems to go into writing interesting series (versus tired rehashes of movies), there's nothing here to suggest that this will suck.

I gotta say, I know it's the whole premise and one of those things that you just have to accept, but the thing I always struggled with about Lost in Space as a concept is that, well, it's practically impossible to actually be lost in space.
We have catalogues listing loads of galaxies. You only need to triangulate from three of them and you can work out your position in our galaxy. And no matter where you are in our galaxy, you would always be able to see other galaxies.
It's not even limited to our galaxy. You could literally be in other galaxies hundreds of millions of light years away and still be able to calculate your position using nothing but a telescope, a catalogue you could buy right now, and a bit of trigonometry! You can't get lost in space!
Like I say, I know it shouldn't be a big deal. It just bugs me a bit.

You would have to literally be on the otherside of the observable universe. Our data other there is useless as it is 13 billion years out of date.
What does defeat mean to you?
Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

Is it me, or does it look like they are not so much lost in space but lost on a singular alien planet?

I attributed that to the abbreviated nature of the spot rather than the actual basis of the show. It seems like they are wasting a commodity such as Stephens’ ability, though.Graham Kennedy wrote:Is it me, or does it look like they are not so much lost in space but lost on a singular alien planet?

Yeah. Maybe it's just for the pilot?

I'm becoming more and more impressed with some of the stuff Netflix is putting out. This looks like it genuinely won't suck. BTW, am I correct in that Will Robinson discovers this robot, instead of it being standard issue with the ship?
